Bernard has never been to dinner at a friend's house. His mother gives him quite the list of rules--no elbows on the table, put your napkin on your lap, don't talk with food in your mouth, and many others. But Bernard isn't prepared to discover that the Highbrows think the table is the best place for elbows and feet, they never put their napkins on their laps, and they always talk with food in their mouths!

Dedications

I'd always meant to write a fan letter to Bernard Waber . As a child, I loved Lyle, Lyle Crocodile and all the other books he wrote and illustrated about Lyle. They were humorous and heartwarming.  I never wrote a letter. Now that he's passed on, I'll never be able to. It's one my big regrets. I hope my dedication causes new readers to become curious about Bernard Waber and Lyle.
